
Zaframagón & Sierra de Líjar
We will visit two important natural icons in this area such as the Sierra de Lijar and Rock of Zaframagón, which have a large population of wildlife animals: birds and mammals.
Sierra de Lijar is a limestone mountain of just over 1000 meters in altitude. Once there, we will walk a path to enjoy stunning views of the countryside and the Subbetica Mountains.
We begin the descent towards the Rock Nature Reserve of Zaframagón . This Rock is declared as an SPA ( Special Protection Area for birds) included in the Natura Network. It has the largest colony of griffon vulture in Andalusia and one of the largest in the Iberian Peninsula, with 200 breeding pairs. It’s easy to spot also the mountain goat.
In this section of the route, we will access to a private estate , we will drive through forest track to the south side of the Rock to access later to the Vía Verde and visit there the observatory of griffon vultures.
Birdwatching: Griffon vulture, egyptian vulture, peregrine falcon, lesser kestrel, kingfisher, short-toed wagle, Bonelli’s eagle, eagle owl.
Mammals: Wild goat, mongoose, genet, badger, weasel, fox, hare, rabbit, hedgehog.
Duration: 4 hours approx.
Minimum 4 people.
